Rochembach: The Interview

How did you start? What made you DJ?

From an early age I had a great passion for music, and growing up I felt the need to communicate through it.

I therefore understood that being a DJ could have given me the opportunity to communicate to many people together how much joy and happiness the music transmitted to me and consequently make them relive it.

How do you describe your sound? Who were your influences?

Good question!

I grew up listening to 70’s pop, soul and funky disco music. My sounds always have a reference to that period, a sound, a melody. Both when I put the records on and when I produce my tracks in the end something comes out of that period.

Many great house music artists have called me a white brother with a black soul heart and I think that’s right.

What do you personally think are the best moments in your artistic career? Did music production affect your DJ career?

My career is always on the rise, I always try to improve and create new things. there has not been a better moment in particular. Let’s say that a series of events allowed me to consolidate myself and raise the level as an artist.

I was taken into consideration by world artists who have made the history of house music such as Lenny Fontana, Eddie Amador or Jemie Louis who have produced some of my songs that were later released in their important record labels such as Jamie’s Purple Music.

I just signed a big deal with Sony Music thanks to Hector Romero who is also a world-class artist and founder of Def MIX. There are indeed many important moments in my career and there will be many. Of course these events were followed by important ones as a DJ.

Listen to Ready for You (Rochembach Soulsession Mix):

What makes you decide to play a particular track during one of your sets? Is there a criterion for selecting what to play at a gig?

Starting from the second question I answer that for me the only criterion that exists is that of the choice of the genre according to the evening in which they invite you to put the records.

For the choice of the songs to play in the evening I go to sensation and usually I choose them at the moment, it depends on what the audience who is listening to me is transmitting from there I understand which disc to put.

In general I try to make women dance, if they dance and smile the whole club does. I often look around while I work, just to capture the mood of the people in the club and act accordingly to make the evening festive and not dark and heavy.

Then there are those known songs that always work and then every now and then you throw in one of the new ones you’re playing and the delirium happens.

Do you travel a lot for gigs? How do you manage music production while travelling?

I am often around the world, sure, but I also created a portable mini studio that is always with me.

At any time, during the trips, I can continue the productions or put down ideas that came to me during the trip.

Where have you performed? Tell me about your favourite performance venues. Any upcoming shows?

I have many years of career and have really worked in many countries and clubs all over the world. An event that I particularly remember is when before the pandemic I was a guest at the WMC winter music conference for the umpteenth time. In that case I played for the first time at NIKKI Beach, a spectacular and really fun club.

For the future, of course, I work with my staff to keep improving and taking my music around the world.

How did the pandemic affect your plans? Do you believe the music industry will ever recover?

Well the pandemic has certainly created damage that I believe can be repaired soon. I took the opportunity to tidy up, create new musical projects and study new studio machines and new set ups.

I can say that I worked a lot, I transformed a moment of calm into an opportunity for growth and by doing so when we were able to leave I had everything ready and this helped me a lot.

If you ever had the chance to travel back in time and talk to a younger version of you, what would you advise yourself?

Perhaps I would advise myself to be less hasty and to have patience from the beginning of my career. The sacrifices will pay off.

What’s next for you?

In addition to respecting existing contracts, I have a trio of labels in my sights that I would like to go out with.

One of these has just received a new project of mine and we are talking. As for the tour dates, we are closing new collaborations and certainly new clubs.
