What makes a techno festival worth visiting?
There is more than one kind of techno festival. Some centre on Detroit and European club traditions, others on industrial spaces and heavier sounds, while smaller gatherings reward adventurous listening, experimental electronics and extended sets. We have deliberately included dedicated techno events alongside a selected number of experimental and house-led festivals that help sustain underground dance-music culture.

Our editorial catalogue is presented in a fixed reference order; the community’s favourites are determined separately by verified votes.
How community voting works
Choose your favourite five festivals and place them in order. Your first choice receives five points, your second receives four, continuing down to one point for fifth place. Votes count only after email confirmation. One verified email address can hold one ballot, and resubmitting replaces the previous selections. Voting does not subscribe you to our newsletter.
These rankings reflect the preferences of people who vote, not an objective assessment of sound quality, inclusion, accessibility or festival safety. Larger events may receive more attention than smaller independent festivals; the discovery directory is designed to surface both.

Why we included experimental festivals
The techno landscape extends beyond the largest dedicated stages. Events such as Berlin Atonal, CTM, Rewire and Unsound also provide space for challenging electronic work, sonic experimentation and new performance formats. Others, including Houghton, Dimensions and Waking Life, connect techno with deep house, minimal and wider electronic subcultures. Their inclusion acknowledges the connections between these scenes rather than claiming that every artist on each lineup plays techno.
