From the Gashouder to a three-day techno festival
Awakenings began in 1997 with a techno night at Amsterdam’s Gashouder. Over the following decades, the event series developed into a large-scale international reference point for the genre. The modern summer Awakenings Festival takes place in the Beekse Bergen area at Hilvarenbeek, near Tilburg in the Netherlands. That distinction matters when looking for dates: Awakenings also operates other events and concepts, including Upclose and Amsterdam Dance Event programmes.
The main festival combines big outdoor and tented production with smaller dancefloor experiences. It can be a useful introduction to the range of modern techno, from established names and more driving styles to groove-focused, hypnotic and leftfield bookings. Its scale does not make every area equally underground; the lineup and stage programme are the best way to decide which parts fit your taste.
Confirmed next festival date
The organiser’s official support page confirms Awakenings Festival for 9–11 July 2027 in Hilvarenbeek. The previous 2026 edition ran 10–12 July. These are two different annual editions. Artist announcements, camping arrangements, tickets and individual day timetables must always be checked on the live event site.
Location, accommodation and getting there
The festival uses the Beekse Bergen recreational area, with different entrances for general admission and camping. Its official 2026 travel guidance recommended travelling by train to Tilburg station and using a festival shuttle bus. Some camping options use separate entrances, so do not assume all tickets have the same arrival route. Travel details, accessibility arrangements and the exact shuttle programme can change each year.
