Work, patience and direction are fundamental aspects to build a career of exponential growth in music. When we talk about underground, it’s even more important to get noticed by the audience and one of the best ways to achieve good results is to be on the main labels that represent your niche.

This is a path the Brazilian DJ and producer Adorn has been treading since he started releasing as a producer in 2020.

The artist, who lives in the Brazilian state of São Paulo and has released on labels such as Cartel Recordings, Back in Black and Under Division, recently joined DSR Digital, the #1 hard techno label according to Beatstats.

With the “Hobbes Didn’t Lie” EP, Adorn presented four original tracks exploring the density of powerful, industrial and acid dancefloor sounds and went to the #11 position of the genre on Beatport.

Recently signed by the Italian management agency Sostanza, the former Heavy Metal drummer also intends to actively work in favour of the hard scene through his label Rave Lemon, which will open, still in 2022, space for other dance music talents. We try to understand the moment of his career through this interview.

Hi Adorn! How did you connect with hard techno and what was your transition from heavy metal to dance music like?

I was already consuming mainstream dance music and being used to the weight, density and speed of heavy metal, the mainstream aesthetic was no longer making sense to me. That was when I started to consume London’s Raw and Acid Techno, that started to make more sense to me, but I still missed the famous “heavy” haha. I started some research and automatically was consuming Hard.

What is the concept behind the “Hobbes Didn’t Lie” EP?

The very name of the EP already says the theme behind it. I remembered a philosophy class I had in high school about Thomas Hobbes.

He brought up the thesis that man is evil by nature and will always do evil to another man. So I decided to produce some tracks with this storytelling behind, and bring aesthetics and sounds that make sense with the philosopher’s speech.

Unfortunately an example of this is the current war in Ukraine, so Hobbes Didn’t Lie!

This release took place in December by DSR Digital. What has changed for you since then?

I really wasn’t expecting that much. When David opened the doors of the record company for me, it was a game changer.

Many big players in the market came to congratulate me because of it, some agencies got in touch, more record companies asking for demos and starting relationships.

It was the boost effect in my career.

In addition to everything that has been happening lately, what does your entrance into the Sostanza roster mean for your growth?

It means a lot! We know the size of hard techno in Brazil and that if I continued with gigs only here, many things in my career would happen very slowly.

Europe has always been and always will be my goal in life, and the funniest thing is that after the announcement, many people asked me how I achieved it, and it was something natural and fast.

At that moment we are working to make my first tour in Europe happen this year!

What are the next achievements on your wish-list that you want to work towards from now on?

First euro tour, more support, and to reach some labels I want to release in.

In 2021 you had about 14 releases by different labels. What does it indicate, technically and theoretically, for artists who want to conquer the attention of renowned labels?

First of all is quality, major labels want quality tracks in every aspect. The second point is to draw the head’s attention not only with the sound quality, but with presence and attitude, whether it’s a dm, email etc…

The third is to be prepared for that, ask yourself ‘If I achieve this, am I ready for whatever comes next?’

Now the rest is up to you, make it happen!
